Insane Dedication Leads to Phenomenal Drum Sounds!

Stigmatized Productions spent many hours trying and testing every possible kit setup and mic placement during the production of this library, every single drum piece was recorded using both left and right hand hits and up to 60 velocity layers per hit! The results of this dedication are immediately evident… this kit kicks some serious metal ass!

This attention to detail also extends to the custom designed user interface. Divided into five sections: Grooves, Options, Kit, Mixer and Matrix you are total given control over the tiniest details of every drum and cymbal to help you sculpt the exact sound you are looking for.

The Kit Section

This section is designed to help you tailor the basic sound of the individual drums quickly and easily without having to dive into the Mixer or EQ (although those are still available to you if you wish to use them). The controls are simple to understand and quickly deliver the expected results:

  • Volume – this controls the volume of the close mic  on each drum/cymbal only, if you want to adjust the other mics use the Mixer section
  • Tuning – allows you to tune the individual drums up or down as desired to suit the mix.
  • Attack – makes the attack  softer or harder.
  • Hold – this control can be used to reduce the size of the room sound on a drum/cymbal.
  • Decay – shortens the drums/cymbal decay envelope.

Find Instant Inspiration in the Built-in Groove Browser!

“Stigmatized Drummer” comes with hundreds of ready to go MIDI grooves to bring you instant inspiration, simply audition them from the “Grooves” browser in the instrument and then drag and drop them into the DAW of your choice for further refinement. The grooves on offer come in many styles and in both “General” and “Focused” editions, they are also split into the following categories for ease of use:

  • Ethnic
  • Hardcore Punk
  • Metal
  • Pop
  • Rock

In addition, you can further tweak any groove you are auditioning to your liking with the following controls:

  • Tightness – this controls how much a given groove adheres to the underlying rhythmic grid, which you can define in the next control…
  • Grid – sets up the basic rhythmic division for any groove; e.g. 1/8, 1/16, 1/32
  • Swing –  this does exactly you’d expect… it progressively adds more swing to a chosen groove as you dial it up.
  • Velocity – increases the overall volume of a groove.
  • Tempo – this control gives you a choice between 1/2, Normal, or Double speed for any groove.

Mix It Your Way – Two Kits, 16 Channel Mixer and Effects

When it comes to mixing flexibility is everything and “Stigmatized Drummer” aims to make sure you get exactly the sound you want in as little time as possible.

Two versions of the kit provided for mixing purposes that will help you achieve the sound you are after… fast!

STIGMATIZED XTREME – This is a pre-processed METAL orientated “mix ready” version, just drop it into your mix and you’re good to go!

STIGMATIZED RAW – A really raw version of the kit 100% as originally recorded that allows you to get in there and really design your own sound from scratch.

Once you have chosen your kit you’ll be ready to dive into the 16 Channel mixer. Here you’ll be presented with an individual channel for every drum/cymbal in your kit along with separate controls for the Overheads. Room and Bleed to help shape your sound in minutes.

Stigmatized Drums” also comes with several built in high quality effects to help sculpt your sound further:

  • G-Equalize
  • Transient Master
  • Solid Bus Compressor
  • Tape Saturator

With the built in Solo, Mute and Pan controls on every channel it’s easy to achieve a well balanced mix within the instrument itself, but if you want to go further you can just route your tracks to your chosen DAW from the built in outputs and use your favourite plugins there.

stigmatized-drummer-matrix

Enter the Matrix (page) & Take Total Control of Your Drums!

The Matrix Router is your ultimate weapon in terms of controlling the individual drums sounds to achieve the perfect drum track. Within this tab you will have access to any internal bus of every single kit piece.

The page itself is divided into two main areas; the Matrix Mixer and the Drum Piece Selector. Whichever piece of kit you choose, the six Matrix mixer controls are dedicated to controlling the sound of that individual drum/cymbal alone and are divided into the following sections:

  • Overhead
  • Room
  • Overhead-Room
  • Bleed
  • Compression
  • Overhead-Compression

With these controls at your disposal you can adjust the Volume and Pan independently for every element, you can even type in values manually at the base of the volume sliders for precise control of that element.

After you have finished perfecting the sound of your kit you can save it with ease for later recall in any project.

this sounds great, but dont you think even a kit that works on free kontakt player would be better as it will optimize your sales even more

Hi there, great suggestion. However, it costs around $10,000 to get a sample library encoded for Kontakt Player and then up to $15 per license key on top of that. This is why many developers choose not to create a Kontakt Player library and it massively increase the cost of creation and then the cost of the sample library is higher for you too. You should get Kontakt full when it goes on sale – it well worth it!

I just got this and have been using it for a short time, but very intensively. Firstly, the real sale price for UK users is £16.27 (today, anyway; exchange rates obviously fluctuate) as VAT is not included in the estimated GBP price. Annoying as this is, it’s still a very small price for what you get in comparison to other kits. Really love the sound, and the midi grooves are of high quality. For me, it fills a gap; there are great kits on Komplete, but none as suitable for metal as this.

A couple of downsides: the layout of the kit on the keyboard is a bit non-standard, so if you’re going to use other midi files for your drums, there will be a bit of fiddling involved to move the drum part to the correct note on the keyboard. Also, the way the reverb works is a bit strange; there’s a “Room” slider and it affects all parts and there are no parameters to adjust other than a single slider. As far as I can see, you can’t isolate individual tracks for sending to this (say, to have lots of reverb on the snare, but little on the bass), so it’s a bit all-or-nothing. However, at the sale price, it feels like nit-picking. I’ll definitely be using this on an upcoming song.

      Hi VSTBuzz32,

You are quite right about VAT being added on to the base price after the fact, but unfortunately since the law changed on European VAT for online sales in 2015 these are the rules we have to follow. This is because the VAT on the purchase is calculated at the rate of the country the purchaser resides in.

As far as the reverb issue goes, the only logical advice I can offer you to overcome this is to route the separate dry kit elements to individual outputs in your DAW and treat them with a reverb plugin of your choice there. You sound like someone who is already well aware of how to do this, but here is a that video explains the process in “Stigmatized Drummer” anyway:

Thanks for your review, we’re glad you’re happy with your purchase! I’m sure your observations will be helpful to others who are considering buying the plugin in the near future. 🙂

First of all my friend vstbuzz32 thanks for your nice review.
Now about the keyboard layout it is made like this because if you notice we used 2 keys for different hits(right, left hand for more realism…for example D1 is left hand hit Snare while D#1 is right hit….check the manual STIGMATIZED DRUMMER-Default Mapping for details)…same principals for tomms also. But anyway you can go to the OPTIONS page and change the map for example to GM or anything from the other libraries presets.
About the reverb it is fully controlled from the MATRIX page…from there you can route everything to everywere in the kit…for example absolutely not Kick in the room while you sent full snare in the room….this is intepentent for every drum piece and you can save your preset….See STIGMATIZED DRUMMER tutorials in my Site were i explain everything.

Perhaps I should have waited a couple of days to write the review! The options for setting to GM and sending to “Room” for each part are indeed there and very quick to set. There are a lot of options, but I have to say that once you know where everything is, it’s very quick to do what you need to do – something that’s essential when the creative juices are flowing.

A fully-featured reverb is the only thing missing, but as VSTBuss says above, if I want more control of that, I can route to different outputs and use a dedicated VST for that. Consider this an upgrade to 5 stars; I haven’t found any quibbles since my original post.
