The Violin (4.2GB)

Full list of articulations available:

  • Slur Legato Slurred legato intervals
  • Bowed Legato – Legato with bow changes at the intervals
  • Portamento Legato – Legato with slides/portamento at the intervals
  • Soft Release Normal note releases with a smooth removal of the bow from the string
  • Hard Releases – Hard releases where the player crescendos and aggressively lifts the bow from the string
  • Staccato – Staccato articulation with 24 variations per note (three layers of 8RR)
  • Whole Tone Trills

The “Sound” of Aria LSS Solo Strings

Aria Sounds’ “LSS Solo Strings Bundle” were sampled in a large beautiful concert hall, with many microphones, making up four main, mixable mic perspectives.

Each instrument has four mic positions – Close mono, Close pair, Mid and Far, with a great diversity from close clear and dry to a full blown reverb-y room sound.

This unique recording technique means that he difference in perspectives is huge, you can create sounds ranging from a very dry and up close sound, to a singing, naturally reverberated distant violin – as well as many degrees between the two.

The Viola (4.4GB)

Full list of available articulations:

  • Slur Legato Slurred legato intervals
  • Bowed Legato – Legato with bow changes at the intervals
  • Portamento Legato – Legato with slides/portamento at the intervals
  • Soft Release Normal note releases with a smooth removal of the bow from the string
  • Hard Releases – Hard releases where the player crescendos and aggressively lifts the bow from the string
  • Staccato – Staccato articulation with 24 variations per note (three layers of 8RR)
  • Whole Tone Trills

Three legato modes for each instrument!

Three legato modes were sampled – slurred, bowed and portamento, and these are easily switchable during use via keyswitches.

One exceptionally useful feature, which even now is rarely seen in solo string libraries, is the ability to change bow on the same note. Simply hold the note you want to change bow on, and press the low G keyswitch.

Aria have tailored the settings, fade curves and envelopes of the legato in each of these instruments meticulously so each articulation has it’s own specially tweaked setting for a great sound!

The Cello (4GB)

Full list of available articulations:

  • Slur Legato Slurred legato intervals
  • Bowed Legato – Legato with bow changes at the intervals

  • Whole Tone Trills

Staccatos and whole-tone trills!

Staccato and whole tone trills are also included, with the staccatos having 24 variations per note so as to never sound repetitive – also switchable via keyswitch.

The Double Bass (4GB)

Full list of available articulations:

  • Slur Legato Slurred legato intervals
  • Bowed Legato – Legato with bow changes at the intervals
  • Portamento Legato – Legato with slides/portamento at the intervals
  • Soft Release Normal note releases with a smooth removal of the bow from the string
  • Hard Releases – Hard releases where the player crescendos and aggressively lifts the bow from the string
  • Staccato – Staccato articulation with 24 variations per note (three layers of 8RR)
  • Whole Tone Trills

Unique release modes!

Another feature included is the ability to alter the release sound when the final note is played and released.

A soft release is a normal removal of the bow from the string, but through keyswitching, you can also select hard release, which triggers a hard release. This is the sound of a player ending the note with a sharp crescendo and quick accented lift of the bow.

kind of sad it’s no go in the kontakt player or I’d be all over it, a nice string library is all I need

Hi Randall, yes unfortunately there are far less libraries out there that work with the Kontakt Player because it costs a lot more for companies to develop for the Player. We have some deals coming up soon though that work with the free Kontakt Player 🙂

What are the bit rate and sample depths of these libraries?

Hi Daniel, the samples are recorded in 24 bit / 48kHz 🙂

I really love the sounds of the string instruments. By holding down the keys will it create the vibrato on its own? I can’t wait to buy this next week. I’m very pleased

Hi there. All instruments are recorded with vibrato in the samples, it isn’t controlled or simulated. Each musician has their own personality and flavour, so the style of vibrato for each instrument will of course vary. The musicians applied their own “tasteful” vibrato which provides a more natural sound 🙂

I think it’s quite nice from the demo’s I’ve just heard. I’m not sure if it beats the 1st chairs from LASS, I’d have to do a side by side comparison, or if the Cello for instance beats Embertone’s, Tina Guo’s, or Emotional Cello … but for $80, it’s a tough offer to refuse. I especially liked the portamentos which were tasteful and not exaggerated. And also their close and far mic positions. I would even go so far as to say that the song demos don’t appear to sound as good as the library could allow, from my observation. In other words, I believe, from my observation, that the library can construct better sounding performances than what was illustrated in the examples. Part of that is that beauty does lie in the hands of the beholder.

One question: How many velocity layers is it, and is that mapped to the ModWheel (standard)?

Hi Evan – here is the reply from Aria Sounds: “there is only one recorded velocity layer, we wanted to avoid cross-fade phase issues to keep the instruments as realistic as possible”. Thanks!

The reasoning behind only 1 velocity layer doesn’t make sense to me. The added realism of having multiple vel layers outweighs any possible of phasing issues.

Can this be loaded in Kontakt 5? I’m not able to import using the “add library” button

      :

Hi James, LSS Solo Strings is a standard open-format Kontakt library, so you can load and browse its contents by using the normal “Files” and “Database” views in the Kontakt browser. You can also use the “File” menu button at the top of Kontakt. The “Libraries” tab in the Kontakt browser is only designed for locked “Powered-By-Kontakt” Player libraries.

So in order to load up the library, just click on “Files”, navigate to the folder’s location, and double click the .nki file you’d like to load.

      Thanks!

      :

You have to make your own NICNT file and then it will load into “add library”. TO be able to do that you have to pay a fee to native instruments. SO when you’re a small company it’s too expensive so they choose the open format.

    Pros:
+ recently a pretty good price (got it for 84 € with VAT)
+ sounds pretty realistic and beautiful!
+ very nice portamento function aswell as the bow change mode
+ each instrument is sampled pretty good
    + 3 different mic positions!
+ has a natural vibrato, added by the players…

    Cons:
    – …which means you can’t alter it via modwheel or anything. But it makes it sound more human!
    – only one velocity for the legato articulations (staccato has different velocity levels), although there are no phase problems with this approach
    – not many articulations (no flageoletts, pizzicato, etc.)

    Resume:
This is a no-brainer, pretty good library and a steal for this price.

Well, I have not bought for missing an essential for me, which is the pizzicato articulation.
