More Than Just A Synth Tutorial
When was the last time you had a software or hardware synth in front of you and just started randomly twisting knobs hoping to get the right sound?
Do you understand what “ring modulation” really is and how it works? Do you know how saw, pulse, triangle and sine waveforms are created and how they sound? What oscillators do? What AD Modulation Envelopes do? Portamento?
Well once you’re finished with Syntorial, you’ll know when, why and how to use over 60 common synth parameters to get the sound you want!

Interactive Learning
A multiple award-winning program, Syntorial doesn’t just show you how synth programming works. It engages you in 129 Interactive Challenges in which you program patches on a built-in synth.
You aren’t just learning how to design sound, you are becoming a sound designer.
For Musicians Not Physicists
Instead of talking about the science and physics behind synthesizers, Syntorial will show you how each control effects sound, as well as when, why and how you would use them when designing sounds.
This is information that you can immediately apply to real-life situations.
It Is All About The Ear
One step at a time, Syntorial trains your ear to recognise how each control shapes and manipulates sound.
Throughout the lessons, you’re given “hidden” patches to try to replicate.
By the end of the program you’ll be able to take the sounds you hear and re-create them, completely by ear.
Get Creative Quickly With The Included Synth Plugin!
Syntorial’s built-in synth, known as Primer, also comes as a VST/AU plugin, included with your purchase of Syntorial.

Why should I pay for Syntorial when there are synthesis tutorials that are free or cost less?
True, there are many sources of information (some accurate, some not) out there on sound design that will cost you less than Syntorial. But they’re all missing the one thing that makes Syntorial so effective: two-way interaction. Books, articles and videos can only GIVE you information, and then it’s up to you to turn that new information into an actual usable skills. That’s like reading a medical textbook and then trying to do brain surgery. Best of luck to that patient!
Syntorial not only gives you the information, but it walks you through a step-by-step method in which you use your ear to program patch after patch after patch, and provides you with feedback at every turn to make sure you’re doing it right. You not only learn WHAT to do, you actually DO it, and BECOME a sound designer in the process.
Well how can I trust that the makers of Syntorial know what they’re talking about?
You don’t need to trust them, you can find out for yourself BEFORE you buy. Download the Syntorial Demo and try several lessons for free. You’ll be able to get a feel for how the program works and truly understand the value of Syntorial’s methods. If that’s not enough, go to Syntorial’s YouTube channel to watch a few video tutorials in which they re-create some popular synth patches from scratch, and you’ll see just how knowledgable and skilled they truly are, both at designing sounds and instructing others on how to do it themselves. They know what they’re doing, and they know how to teach it!
What are the system requirements?
- Mac with OS 10.9 or later
- PC with Windows 11, 10, 8, 7 or Vista.
- iPad with iOS 9 or later
1 GB free disk space. For Mac/PC, Midi keyboard recommended, but not required. Feel free to download and install the demo or free app to make sure Syntorial works on your system.
Do I need an actual synth to use this program?
No, Syntorial comes with a custom, quality, built-in soft synth, used throughout the entire program.
Can I use my own synth?
No. In order to provide you with feedback on your patch programming, Syntorial needs to interact with the synth in a very specific and special way, that only Syntorial’s synth is equipped to handle.
Will I be able to use my new found skills on synths other than Syntorial’s?
Yes! Syntorial’s synth is designed to encompass the most common synth parameters found on the vast majority of synths, and includes several videos that will help you apply your newfound skills to your own synth. Syntorial’s synth features:

JIN – :
Where was this program when I was trying to learn synthesis? This program is the most cutting edge method to learn synthesis. Highly recommended.
Ruud – :
Finally a comprehensive and fun way to learn about synthesis. Great stuff! I’ve watched many tutorials on YouTube but they usually only deal with parts of sound design. This is a course that starts with the basics!
Kenjii – :
If you’re a beginner or seasoned sound designer Syntorial has something for you. I’ve recently decided that using my various synth presets and tweaking them is just not enough. I really felt like I was not utilizing the full potential of my synth; it all changed with Syntorial. It was quickly apparent that there were some things I had missed Syntorial has helped me get the most out of my synths. I’m way more creative and can create the exact sounds I hear in my head.
David – :
I’ve tested Syntorial so many times, I’m so glad I finally took the plunge. The price was juuuuuust right. Do yourself a favor, get all of your lessons in one place! Plus, if you own Sylenth and/or Serum, you get lessons for those synths as well. All the basics plus some targeted stuff at a great price! Go get em!
Andrew – :
This is the perfect Synth Tutorial. Absolutely a joy to use! Makes learning fun! It breaks down complex ideas into fun bite sized chucks that’s easy to understand.
Fabio – :
Love it. Finally I’m able to understand how to make my sounds. Easy to use and to follow. Was looking for this and I was not knowing it.
Eric – :
Excellent for learning about synths in an in depth way. This is a difficult but rewarding program to work through and if you want to hear and use synths more easily I definitely recommend working through this.
Gabriel – :
I’ve been using the demo and absolutely love it. I’ve learned so much about synthesis already from this program and had to purchase the full version to continue the lessons. I can’t enough good things about this application. Very well thought out. Highly recommended!
Andrew – :
LOVING this tutorial. Easily the most comprehensive and intuitive synth tutorial I’ve seen – and I’ve been looking for quite some time. I might actually learn something from this one!
Toru – :
This is a fun way to learn how to make synthesizer sounds.
The basic skills must be useful for many things.
It will keep you learning until the end.
Nathan – :
Brilliant idea – learning all the theory and trying it out on your own is one thing, but doing integrated hands-on training like this is something totally different. If you want to learn how to craft sounds – this is well worth the investment.
Jan – :
Great if you really want to understand synthesizers. Learning by turning the knobs instead of just theory lessons.
Vadym – :
I loved Syntorial since its demo a couple of years ago. Nowadays it looks and feels a little outdated with its design. But information wise it is still very good and worth for training ears and rehearsing synthesizing capabilities
Nicolas – :
IF you want to learn how synths work, there is only 1 way and that is Syntorial.
Excellent product!
Julian – :
really useful and addictive as well.
the lessons are great for experienced people as well as anyone new to synths.
as a long time synth user I still find it extremely useful and recommend to everyone starting out with synths
Thomas – :
Absolutely amazing. It does take some time to go through this tutorial, but it’s well worth it to get a firm foundation in sound design with synths.
Tre – :
The lessons are good and it’s a great way to learn about synthesis but there is one big negative and that is the user interface – it’s tiny and looks rather meh. The developer hinted at a future update though this might not be free for current users. I’d still recommend it as a great learning tool, especially if you have an iPad (available on the app store as well and you can unlock it with the same license).
David – :
Syntorial is a great way to learn subtractive synth sound design. I find the teaching style and the gamification to be very effective.
My only gripe is I find myself skipping through some of the video content because it’s a bit repetitive, but this is not a huge issue.
jeremy – :
Dont Miss Out! syntorial is going to let you copy sounds and start with one knob at a time, i have four knobs unlocked so far, and already understand the synthesizer. Thanks VSTBUZZ!!
Mike – :
Get this immediately! Like yesterday! Lol nah seriously, I learned more about synths with this product in 3 days than I learned messing with a synth midi controller in 9 years! Get this if you want to level up!
Simon – :
Previously tried the demo so when this 50% discount showed I purchased it.
For full price it was to expensive for me.
I’m slowly going through the lessons to help me understand how to make patches rather than just always tweaking presets. Time will tell if I learn though.
Melody – :
Syntorial taught me how to design sounds by ears! I had a tough time getting start on synths and syntorial certainly help me a lot on learning more on sound design!
Mathew – :
Just started playing with this and it is exactly what I was looking for. Recommended for anybody trying to learn how synths work. In my opinion, the interactive learning implemented here makes it so much easier to learn.
Takehiro – :
SYNTORIAL is THE BEST guide of to learning synthesizer! SYNTORIAL gives me not only how to use synthesizer but also inspiration.
Anthony – :
I’ve only completed a couple of the tutorials so far, but the conception and execution of this product seems excellent. Effectively learning through practise and, most importantly, training your ability to actually decipher what you hear is a brilliant idea. Well worth the purchase price, especially in a half price sale!
Joshua – :
Syntorial offers a unique and enjoyable approach to learning about subtractive synthesis. Providing the synth as a VST that can be used in any DAW encourages the learner to apply their knowledge creatively, which is an excellent touch. The ability to expand the coursework with additional synth packs is a brilliant bonus!
