DAW Sync & Automatic Re-Metering
Whether you use Pro Tools, Ableton, Logic, Cubase, Premiere Pro (or most other DAWs for that matter), Bute will synchronise with it locking to the transport.
When you make any alterations to your audio in your DAW, Bute automatically re-analyses and updates the overall metering and history graph.
Built-In Presets
Bute is fully compliant with all revisions of ITU-R BS. 1770, EBU R128, ATSC A/85, OP-59, ARIB TR-B32, Spotify, YouTube, Apple Check, Hulu, TIDAL, Sony Gaming (ASWG), AES Streaming Recommendation, US Public Radio (PRSS), TIDAL and Pandora.
You can also save multiple user-defined presets.
History Overview & Alerts
The detailed history overview gives you complete oversight and insight of your session. Areas of your audio that need your attention will be shown in red in the history overview.
You can easily navigate to the areas that require your attention and zoom in and out your metering data. Handling a long session? No problem!
Custom Alert System For Dynamic Work
If you are working within a dynamic range, you can specify your desired range parameters in the “custom warning system” section of the settings menu.
Sections of your audio that go out with the specified range will appear in yellow on the history overview.
This will let you focus on your craft instead of meter readouts.
Easily Toggle Between Readings
You can toggle between short-term and momentary loudness, true-peak, and traditional RMS readings at the click of a button.
This means you can declutter the interface to focus on the information you want. The same goes for switching between absolute and relative scale.
Flexible & Scalable
Bute is completely scalable giving you the flexibility to freely adjust size and scale to your preferences. There is also a compact view to save valuable screen space if needed.
Save, Reload & Export Metering Data
If you need to save multiple sessions for different platforms, you can. Bute will also reload metering data from previous sessions so you can head home and continue the next day where you left off.
If you need to prove your programme or audio file is loudness compliant, you can export CSV logs too.
The Plugin Window Overview In Depth
Collapsed / Expanded View
When the collapse icon in the menu bar is clicked, the plugin window will resize and rearrange to a compact layout. This mode displays all the current readings and indications, including warnings and standard compliance.
Loudness Meter
At the top of the metering section you can find the reading for Integrated Loudness, the overall loudness in LUFS/ LKFS of the whole programme / track.
On top of the integrated loudness reading is the preset selection, which determines which standard is used for metering. Targets, units, and metering algorithm change depending on the selected preset.
On the top right of the Integrated Loudness section is a Target Indication for integrated loudness.
- If the Target Indicator is green this means that your programme complies with the selected preset.
- If the programme/audio track is out of target there will be an indication of whether it is too quiet or too loud.
The number next to the arrow shows you how far off you are from the target.
- True Peak displays the true peak of the currently playing audio. It uses an upsampled signal to mimic analog output.
- Short Term displays the short term loudness and uses a sliding rectangular time window of length 3s. The Momentary displays the momentary loudness and uses a sliding rectangular time window of length 0.4s.
- RMS displays the Root-Mean Squared reading of the currently playing audio. The RMS window length can be adjusted in the Meter Settings page.
History View
The history section can be found when the plugin is expanded on the left side of the window. In the history section you can see the history graphs of all the selected readings. The colours of the graphs correspond to the colours of the meter bars and the meter readings.
The preview section on the top shows the whole history. You can move and zoom through the history by moving and resizing the window in it.
Floating Information Box
The information box contains the exact reading at a particular time. From top to bottom: Time, Short Term Loudness, Momentary Loudness, True Peak and RMS.
The history view also shows areas of concern on the timebar. Standard violations (like true peak overshoots) in red and warnings in yellow.
Hovering over it will give you more detailed information of the issue.
The Menu Bar
- Absolute/Relative Scale: Changes between absolute and relative scale.
- Play/Pause Button: Plays and pauses the meter when DAW Sync is deactivated.
- DAW Sync: When turned on, the meter synchronises to DAW transport.
- Reset: Resets all metering, warnings and errors.
The menu is always visible on the top right corner of the plugin window.
Expand Menu

- Load Session: Loads session from file.
- Export CSV: Exports CSV text file with all the readings from your session.

Stephane – :
Very advanced plugin, it’s probably going to become my go-to analyser, since it’s very practical to use in a DAW.
Nonetheless, the marketing is confusing: here it’s the stereo version, not the surround one.
And since it’s not a part of the BUTE loudness suite, the loudness normaliser is not included, but sold separately.
