Iconic V
The “Iconic V” is a Kontakt version of the most recognisable drum synth of the 1980s.
Boasting eight fully tweakable drum and cymbal modules, a comprehensive mixer and onboard effects, this drum synthesizer does both classic, and contemporary with ease.
Recreate the sonic footprints of great artists like Duran Duran, Howard Jones and Naked Eyes, or use the new circuit bending parameters and tone-shaping effects to craft an entirely original sound.
Dave Tozer helped design the Iconic V feature set and user interface, combing a classic console-style workflow with modern features, like Target Mode, output routing and a full Presets menu.

“Iconic V” comes with a modern software workflow and mixing environment, circuit bent for expanded functionality.
INSTRUMENT PANEL
The “Iconic V” comes with eight drum and cymbal modules, each of which can be tweaked to achieve an incredibly broad range of sounds.
Drum design using the faithfully recreated controls of the original unit, or explore the possibilities of Iconic Instruments’ additional circuit bent parameters, built-in Presets loader, Target Mode and front-panel mixing features (volume, pan and effects sends/returns).
MIXER PANEL
Balance your percussive elements with Iconic V’s in-built mixer. Tweak sound further with per channel distortion, compression, transient shaping, EQ, high-and low-pass filters, and tape saturation.
Send each element to delay and reverb auxiliary channels and create a sense of space with authentic, 80’s-era impulse responses, custom-made by Numerical Sound.

Syndrum & DS-4
In 1976 Pollard introduced the first commercially available drum synthesizer, the Syndrum.
Two years later, Toyo Gakki of Japan answered back with the Ult-Sound DS-4.
The Syndrum and the DS-4 were part of the technological revolution taking place in the late 70’s and early 80’s that made synthesizers more accessible, which gave way to new sounds and new musical forms going into the 1980’s.
Iconic Instruments has created virtual versions of these two classic instruments. They employed circuit-bending to sample every waveform at every pitch from original units.
Using Kontakt’s engine they were able to model all of the functionality of the original units, plus some enhancements and additions, including a built-in effects section.
Since they have every note sampled, they spun off their own synthesizer versions of both the Syndrum and the DS-4 with all the notes laid across the entire keyboard, as opposed to the four channel drum versions.
They’ve added synthesizer-specific functionality, like Portamento, Poly, Mono and Legato modes, Voltage-Controlled Amplifier and Filter modules, an Arpeggiator and and effects section.
Each instrument also comes with a host of ready-to-use presets, including carefully crafted Multi-Instruments.

Clap Trap
The Iconic Clap Trap is a software homage to the very first analog clap synthesizer, the ultra-rare 1979 Clap Trap.
The Clap Trap was inspired by 70’s Disco recordings, which ubiquitously featured handclaps on the 2 and 4 of every bar (especially in the chorus).
The unit became well-known in its own right in the early 80’s, appearing in many Pop and New Wave recordings.
It was known to be used on recordings by The Human League and Throbbing Gristle, and it’s debated as to whether the Clap Trap was used on Kim Carnes’ Bette Davis Eyes and Gary Numan’s Cars.
