In active development for more than 8 months, VIBE is a library that heads into new territories for Strezov Sampling. VIBE is special because it was recorded in the wonderful acoustics of SOFIA SESSION STUDIO (large hall acoustics) by engineer Plamen Penchev and features the wonderful performances of drummer extraordinaire MICHAEL SCHACK.

About Vibe
The library is comprised of two drumsets – one ordinary DRUMKIT and one TRASHKIT.
VIBE has deeply sampled one-shot samples as well as 145 performances, recorded in 13 “genres” in multiple variations (called “vibes”).
The library features the X3M engine first introduced with Thunder X3M, giving you the options to load different grooves into different zones of the keyboard, as well as the option to customise the sounds.
X3M Percussion Engine
The concept behind the engine is fairly simple – the keyboard range is divided into zones that you are able to assign different sounds to. After making the template of your choosing, just plug in and play – nothing else needed!
VIBE uses this concept to allow flexible groove mapping across the keyboard range. Build your own instrument the way you like it!
In addition to that, the engine also allows you to tweak individual zones, as well as the whole mapped ensemble patch with various effects and mic positions. Combining these with the natural and organic recordings, you have maximum flexibility when it comes to sound.
Once you load up the Drumkit or Trashkit patch you automatically load all microphone samples inside the “Samples” directory. However, the instrument is built in such a way that it actually keeps all samples purged, unless you deactivate the full mix within the GUI.
This means that not only do you have a single patch with all options you might need, but it is also optimised and doesn’t hurt your RAM resources in any way.
Microphone Positions
By default, VIBE loads up the Full Mix microphone positions (pre-mixed by engineer Plamen Penchev) – this is the easiest way to do mock-ups or to sketch an idea. If you want (by clicking on the On/Off button on top) you can open the individual microphone positions, which are as follows:
- DRUMKIT: Kick (+3 individual kick microphones), Snare (+3 individual snare microphones), HiHat, Tom 1, Tom 2, Ride, Overhead, Close Rooms, Far Rooms (positioned on studio balcony).
- TRASHKIT: Kick (+3 individual kick microphones), Snare (+3 individual snare microphones), HiHat, HiHat BIG, Tom 1, Tom 2, Crash, Overhead, Close Rooms, Far Rooms (positioned on studio balcony).
The reason for different microphones between the two sets is mostly because of the junk items Strezov Sampling used for the Trashkit – for instance it had a broken (in half!) small cymbal they used for a hi-hat (“HiHat BIG”) and also a very old and rusty metal cymbal for a crash.
You have the option to SOLO, MUTE and PURGE all individual microphones. Moreover you can pan them to your taste, output them to different Kontakt outputs (for mixing within your DAW of choice mixer) and – very important – individual pitch control. You can use this to further sculpt the sound of the drums or to create interesting effects.

For the price – amazing. Ok – not the most comprehensive set of grooves (no techno, no super pop-py) but what is here is great. It is more or less loop (not midi) based – however, you can construct with one shots if you like. But the loops are actually played so they sound real (Because they are) and have a human like quality to them. Again for $30 something US … cant really go wrong …

I own MANY drum libraries and terrabytes of samples. But when I heard this, I immediately knew it was different from anything else that I own! Out of the box this drum library has immediate “vibe” and a contemporary sound that I’ve been looking to get with plugins, etc. For this depth of samples and loops that you get with this, it’s a no brainer. Sonically, this library is very stout and will inspire you with “that sound” you’ve been trying to get from modern pop,/ rock drums!!

Was looking for drumkit that was recorded in a large space. Just used them in a track – love these! Anything from Strezov is generally always well done.

I think it’s a large-capacity but easy-to-use drum library.
Personally, the snare drum is very easy to use.

If you’re looking for a big, roomy, contempoary drum sound that is quick to load, playable, with multi-out capabilities, this is the kit! It has only one… YES, ONE well mic’d, well tuned drum kit, and I’m surprised! Why is that so? Normally, you buy a library that offers a lot of options from kits pieces to mix presets. But I believe, the reason for this is because the developers trusts their product that it will be versatile enough to meet the composers and arrangers’ ideal sound in mind! Trust me, usual jokes about snares sounding like sh*t is never an issue for me in this library. It just jives to the every kit-piece it is played with.
If you’re a serious composer on a budget, this is a serious library for a serious job too. It will not let you down.
Ps. For the 8 stars out of 10, maybe it’s just me but the ride and crash cymbals need more sustain and dynamics to them to even sound more playable like how they sound in the loops but overall, the sound is still a killer and a hit-maker, best companion for any composers and arrangers like me!
