What Is “Frostbite 2”?
“Frostbite 2” is a simple but very versatile effect that works well with ambient and cinematic music as well as sound design. It comes with the following features:
- Ring Modulator

Manipulate Your Sound With Spectral Freeze, Ring Mod & Feedback
“Frostbite 2” has three effects modules, with each module bringing its own special attributes designed to help you achieve the sound you are looking for quickly and easily:
With the internal LFO you can modulate most of the parameters on each module, creating evolving eerie soundscapes.
Four Freeze Modes
The Freeze module has four freeze modes that you can choose from:
- Spectral, uses FFT to store several analysis windows in memory and replay them randomising their phases
- Reverb, a classic reverb algorithm with multiple comb and all-pass filters that can have an infinite decay
- Convolution, multiplies the input signal with a randomly generated noise impulse, up to 60 seconds
- Granular, the input signal is chopped into small grains that are randomly processed
Drag & Drop
Frostbite 2 can be used in serial or parallel mode.
When used in serial mode, you can rearrange the modules with a simple drag-and-drop to change the signal flow.
With the internal LFO you can modulate most of the parameters on each module, creating evolving eerie soundscapes.
Features
- PARAMETER LOCK – If you want to keep the value of one or more parameters while changing presets, you can use the Parameter Lock feature.
- RANDOMIZER – It is possible to randomize the parameters in the interface by clicking on the Random (dice) button in the top bar.
- ALLOW MODULES TO MOVE – When you disable this option you won’t be able to move the modules with drag and drop or when browsing presets.
- CLEAR FREEZE BUFFER ON FREEZE – You can clear the buffer of the freeze effect by clicking on the Clear button.
- CLEAR ALL BUFFERS ON HOST RESET – This option lets you clear the internal buffers of all modules every time the host/DAW sends a reset call.
- SET SPECTRAL FREEZE MODE LATENCY – When enabled, the plugin will report a latency to the host/DAW if using the Spectral Freeze mode.
- WINDOW SIZE – You can resize the plugin window using three predefined sizes (small, standard, big).
- PRESET COPY/PASTE – You can easily share presets by using this Copy/Paste feature instead of sharing the actual preset file.

No-brainer this one. Whilst the quality is always there with AudioThing’s plug-ins, I do find myself questioning the actual usefulness of some of their entries (looking at you, Gong Amp) – however, that’s not a concern with Frostbite 2. For a novelty reverb/delay unit, this succeeds across-the-board in terms of use-cases. The key is the “fade” knob, which essentially replaces your normal decay dial by setting the upper limit to infinity, coupled with the modular routing design of the high-quality stereo delay. So whilst the option of infinite ambient sound-scapes is always there, just playing a half-decent piano patch through Frostbite 2 with a non-infinite fade-out instantly creates dreamy Brian Eno-esque distantly dancing patterns which not only sound like a finished record instantly but also save you the headache of chaining Valhalla Shimmer through FabFilter Timeless, with an LX480 in parallel plus a custom complex MTurboReverb preset sucking-up all your CPU cycles. It’s great, just get it!

At $19 this was very worthwhile as there are some interesting and truly unique effect options in this plugin but I’d struggle to justify the full price TBH.
