Piano Smasher Functionality
Pain Piano also features a Piano Smasher functionality that allows you to create endless new sounds by randomizing the original samples: you can create cluster and tonal elements, transitions, dark impacts and many other useful cinematic effects.
You can even choose a weapon to virtually smash the piano (hammer, katana and dynamite) and experiment with the different sound signatures corresponding to each one!
Tempo Synched Loops
This library also features a large set of tempo synched loops (130+), that can be individually or globally tuned to a specific root key, and a Convolution Reverb module featuring 120+ IRs (Impulse Responses) to further sculpt the sound and create your own, unique effects.
Pain Piano includes a total of 530+ high resolution, royalty-free sounds (.wav 96 kHz, 24 bit) plus 8 Kontakt instruments.
Kontakt Instruments: SAMPLE PANEL
“Pain Piano” features 8 Kontakt instruments that allow you to individually manipulate the samples: each sample featured in the instrument can be independently edited by adjusting the controls on the UI reported in the figure above. Every time you play a sample, the corresponding waveform is displayed at the centre of the UI and all the controls of Sample Offset, Envelope, Filter, Pitch and Volume are updated to the current ones.
Global Pitch Mode
Global Pitch Mode is activated by pressing the button GLOBAL located in the upper right corner of the Sample Panel. When activated, Global Pitch allows you to control the pitch of every sample in the instrument simultaneously. Therefore changing the value of the pitch for the current sample will affect the pitch for any other sample in the instrument.
Moreover, when Global Pitch is activated, an Octave Shifter slider appears on the left: this allows you to shift the tuning of -2 to +2 octaves from the root key you’ve set.
Convolution Reverb
Pain Piano features a Convolution module to further colour and sculpt the sound of the instruments. You can experiment by selecting from more than 120 experimental samples, which have been divided in two categories, texture and rhythm.
Moreover, you can use the convolution samples even outside of Kontakt, loading them in your favourite convolution reverb!

Mike – :
Great sounds. Love that .wav files are included as well to add into my iOS samplers! The bowed sounds the atonal hits are excellent to further manipulate in a sampler or granular engine. Lots of great source material.
Raees – :
Honestly the best horror piano library I’ve purchased yet.
I like that all the samples are arranged in a folder as WAV files, so you can use them outside of Kontakt as well.
Virgil – :
I don’t normally do reviews, but this is a wicked cool VST – the sounds are inspiring and very high quality. Possibly the best deal I’ve ran into so far in 2021 and we’re 8 months in!!!
Michael – :
I love acoustic prepared pianos but with Pain Piano I have full control over the sounds with endless possibilities at such an affordable price!
Arsenial – :
Very cool and unique sounds in this library. I think if you’re creative, you can find a way to integrate some of these sounds into different genres rather than just sticking to horror. Great work as usual by S+OS!
Quetzal – :
Great piano fx library, that has a quantity of tools to customise easily the sound you want.
The ability to have all the keys auto tuned to one specific pitch is amazingly helpful (with no cost to the sound).
Nico – :
Cool sounds! Can’t wait to dig in. The Bowed Piano has some great textures and the hits are amazing.
Alex – :
Very useful for adding some organic feeling into my “too mechanical” piano melodies 🙂 Combining these sounds with external VST plugins brings very interesting results.
James – :
I understand it is a prepared piano and effects … some more unaffected sounds would be great – to hear these pianos in more detail – but again for the price – gives you prepared sounds different from other libraries at bargain basement price … who’s to complain …
Dawoud – :
This is an excellent collection. It will be quite useful for soundtrack work as well as many contemporary music styles. The interface is quite easy to navigate which is helpful in that it won’t take up too much time with the mechanics of the plugin taking away for the creative process.
Juergen Uwe – :
nice idea – nobody had , well done – the material have quality , short way to get – explained well here , be funny – cause its cheap too … thx – i like so….
James – :
In an ideal world, there would be more of the untreated pianos … but who can complain at this price … some useful treatments not available in other prepared libraries (and I think I have them all!)
Octavius – :
This is dope. I don’t score movies, etc. But I use these sounds to help create my own samples and loops. They give my piano samples, as well as other instruments more character.
Jamie – :
This is a good addition for composers looking to write horror scores. Has enough depth of sound to make it useable while having the variety to add a lot of tension to any horror/thriller score. Used either subtly or as an in your face instrument, this one delivers enough impact and tension to warrant having it in your collection
