Extreme Mangled Strings For Cinematic Horror Music & FX (Kontakt & WAV)
“Stringache” from Silence & Other Sounds is a modern horror library of mangled string noises. Silence+Other Sounds used close microphone techniques to record a huge deal of violin stabs and screeches, pizzicatos, cello staccatos, double bass jetè, crescendos, strident string gestures, bowed noises: all of them have been heavily processed and transformed in unsettling, hair-raising cinematic horror effects.
Stringache is for the contemporary composer of horror cinematic music: whenever you need a subtle violin effect to create tension, a rising cluster effect to grab the audience’s attention or a screaming, ear piercing string screech stab, Stringache will be your weapon.

Complete Control To Shape Your Sound
The “Stringache“ library is built around the concept of three individual, completely independent controllable layers colour-coded: Grey, Blue and Violet
Layer Controls
Looking at the center of the GUI, the most obvious example of this layered concept can be found in the three rectangular buttons labeled Layer 1, Layer 2 and Layer 3. Clicking these buttons toggles controls for that layer and so on, allowing you to adjust the parameters for that layer individually.
Pitch Controls
To the top left of the interface you will see 3 dials. These control pitch for each group and are color-coded to follow the same Grey, Blue, Violet order.
Waveform Display
The Waveform for each sound is displayed in the center screen and again, the color-coding indicates which group the sound belongs to.
On the right-hand side of the waveform display is a set of volume controls for each layer, also color-coded and following the same layer order.
EQ, Envelopes & Filters
In the middle of the GUI you’ll find extensive controls to help you shape and manipulate the raw sounds as follows:
- Parametric EQ – includes DB & HZ controls for Low Frequency (LF), Low Mid Frequency (LMF), High Mid Frequency (HMF) & High Frequency (HF)
- Volume Envelope – includes controls for Attack, Hold, Decay, Sustain and Release
- Low Pass Filter (LPF)
- High Pass Filter (HPF)
- Resonance (which effects both LPF & HPF)
Below the filter controls are knobs for Drive, Damp and Saturation if you want to add more distortion to the sound.
Reverb & Delay
Reverb and Delay are master effects which will modify any of the sounds, regardless of which group or layer is selected.
All of the above GUI Controls are assignable to MIDI CC using the standard Kontakt METHOD.
Kontakt Keyboard Display
Here you’ll see 3 playable layers illustrated by colour-coded concept described above.
- Grey (or Black, depending on your monitor settings) is Group One
- Blue is Group 2
- Violet (Pink) is Group 3
To realize this library’s full potential, you need to be open to adventure. Experimentation with the included effect controls will help you extract the most from this library.

Stringache is super delusional, I find it super cinematic, The graphic aspect is cool for me. And in terms of sound performance, I am overwhelmed. There is plenty to do in terms of atmospheres …

Usually i’m hesitant in getting orchestral fx libraries but Stringache, definitely is a useful tool for that extra flavor in my scores!
James – :
great deal on some interesting, useful samples. not your average sample set, will make your tracks a bit uneasy
Jerry – :
I’ve always been a fan of the string section of the orchestra and own a number of string libraries. This is unlike any of the other string libraries I own. It takes the String Section to a new level that you do not find in typical libraries. Very well done!
Peter – :
The raw sounds are full of character and I use them often to supplement score tracks. The processed sounds are atmospheric and trendy and I avoid them.
Bastian – :
One of my favorite tools when it comes to creating unique textures. Great GUI and sound, highly recommend!
