Capturing A Classic Sound – The Roland System 100M
The concept behind the “System 1000M” was to capture the character and feel of a true analog modular synthesizer and then recreate that experience within the Kontakt interface.
Based in part on the classic 80’s Roland System 100M, this synth has tons of character and warmth to it, with enough subtle imperfections to make it sound real.
The basses are thick, the leads are sharp, and there are plenty of weird fx, blips, and other noises. It’s one of those few libraries that really puts you in the mind of actual hardware gear.
Used by the likes of Orbital, Hans Zimmer, Vince Clarke, Depeche Mode, Heaven 17, Jamiroquai, Human League, and Peter Howell of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, the original 100M offers up some real vintage versatility that resembles the kind of customization we like to see in our synths today.

Over 525 Inspiring Presets & Control In One Stylish Package!
A multisampled Roland System 100m modular synth for Konakt 5, “System 1000M” channels justover 1GB of captured waveforms into an epic scripted Kontakt synth emulation!
Basic functions include the following:
- Bank Window – A window displaying the current bank of waveforms (non-selectable)
- Wave Select – Hover the mouse over the window to select the current waveform
- Octave Select – This comes into effect on the next keypress (functions with arpeggiator hold)
- Ptich Adjust – Plus and minus 3 octaves. Effective during key press
- Fine Tune – Plus and minus 1 semitone. Effective during key press
- Pitch Env2 Send – Dual Polarity slider – inverse values below the centre “zero” position
- Noise Select – Can be used with no waveform
- Noise Gain – Noise volume can be affected by “Keytrack” in the Arp/FX section
- Pitch LFO1 & 2 Send – Dual polarity sliders
With a single oscillator hosting fabulously wonky saw, triangle and pulse (square, narrow and wide) waves, a noise oscillator, and a single multimode filter to shove the results through, the raw materials might not seem like much; but with three LFOs and two envelopes bringing plenty of movement, System 1000M is big on modulation!
Envelope 1 even features a variable randomiser control for each stage, while below it awaits the global Random button, for instantly generating new patches.

Shape, Sequence & Mangle To Your Hearts Content!
“System 1000M” comes with a whole host of ways for you set up your personal performance preferences, and also allows you to creatively mangle, distort or otherwise mess around with the basic sounds using a number of built-in tools, including the following:
PERFORMANCE PREFERENCES
- Random Pitch – Use sparingly for realistic / organic oscillator drift
- Pitchwheel Settings – Micro mode for subtle variation
- Monophonic Switch – Hover over the “priority” window to select a choice of mono behaviour
- Portamento – Auto comes into effect when playing legato style
KEYTRACKING
There is a dual polarity Keytrack function assigned to the mod-wheel. This acts as a great alternative to filter cutoff, as it is pitch specific.
ARPEGGIATOR
“System 1000M” features an arpeggiator, with 2 ‘interval’ sections, allowing some very interesting patterns to be made, as well as 3 oscillator stye leads. Here is a brief list of features:
- Note Interval – Using this feature adds interesting possibilities to the arpeggiator
- Arpeggiator – Hover over the windows to change the rate and pattern
- Duration – Sets the length of the note when arpeggiated
- Strike – Allows for repetition of notes within arpeggio
- Octave – Sets the range in which the arpeggiator operates
