XCTR is a multi-band harmonic exciter based on HeadCrusher saturation. Harmonic exciters can give a shine to certain frequencies in the mix. They can be used on drums to make the cymbals shine, bring up the kick drum on a stereo bus, bring some life back into a dull instrument, or even some shine to the whole mix.

XCTR is a multi band harmonic exciter based on Audio Assault’s Head Crusher saturation. It includes 4 bands that can be independently driven and mixed into the signal. Each band in XCTR has 5 selectable saturation modes, that can be independently mixed and matched between each band.
Engage the oversample switch if you need to enhance the saturation quality. Click on the top bar of the plugin to audition each band separately. Double-clicking lets you enter values directly into any control, ctrl/cmd+click sets controls to their default positions.

- SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
- Audio Assault Plug-ins are compatible with most major DAWs on both Windows and OS X, as long as your DAW supports either AU/VST/VS3/RTAS or AAX formats, the plug-in should be compatible.

Nice affordable multiband exciter. I like the many saturation choices (v3 has 7 additional modes totaling 20). You also now can oversample 8x with different latency options. The distortion curves (soft, medium or hard) are helpful for a more subtle approach. ACG is a typo on the website and should be AGC (Automatic Gain Control) as shown in the plugin – the button itself is hard to tell if activated. I’m not sure that the band crossover sliders are very precise but this definitely gets the job done.
