Colourform
“Colourform” is a Kontakt sample library designed for making atmospheric and unusual sounds in a different way.
Rather than standard sliders and knobs, Colourform uses colours to blend sounds. The core of the Colourform engine is the 3 unique colour wheels which are similar to Oscillators in a synth. Using these controls, creating new sounds is incredibly easy.
The 112 sounds of Colourform are wide atmospheric recordings from abstract sources, such as pitchforks, glass bowls, creaky gates, spanners, rain and thunder, fire, water, miscellaneous metal, CRT screens, bowed glass and plucked strings.
Colour Wheels – The core feature of Colourform is 3 unique controls called colour wheels. These are essentially like Oscillators on a synth. The sound that each colour wheel (or oscillator) makes is determined by what colour the white marker is pointing at on the outer ring.
Design the Order – Each colour wheel is made up from 4 different sounds. These sounds are represented by a colour. Click the segments to cycle through the available colours.
See the Colour Blend – The colours from the 3 colour wheels are blended in real time and shown for you to truly explore what the colour representation of the sound is. Your colour blend can then be saved to one of the 4 built-in preset slots.
Customise each Layer – Change the Volume Envelope, Low Pass Filter, Volume and Pan of each of the 12 available sounds. There is also a link button which allows you to edit all the sounds at once.
Musical Randomisation – Colourform features 2 easy-to-use randomise buttons. The first will spin the colour wheels to a new random location, and the second will randomise all of the colour segments.
Powerful Effects Rack – The Frozen Plain Effects Engine is built into Colourform, it features 13 effects such as: Reverb, Echo, Chorus, Arpeggiator, Sequencer, Atomise and Scatter (granular synth) and more. Each effect has 5 presets.

Arctic Strings
Like many Frozen Plain libraries, “Arctic Strings” features a strong link between visuals and sounds. Strings can have an incredibly emotive sound that swells and flows.
Arctic Strings is inspired by the real life spectacle of the northern lights and it is this idea that inspired the graphical interface. This library excels at strings for ambience and atmosphere.
They are incredibly easy to use and work very well together with real strings recordings. Their smooth and atmospheric nature leave plenty of room for real string recordings on top to shine.
Dynamics and Volume – Control the dynamics and volume with the dynamics slider. This slider crossfades between different recordings of the strings: played softly, and played hard.
Automatic Harmony – You can automatically harmonise your strings – turning a single keypress into a major triad chord for example. There are a variety of chord and interval presets to choose from. The harmony can be constrained to a key and scaled to fit your music.
Scripted Legato and Portamento – The legato and portamento is completely customisable. The length of the transition is controlled by 2 sliders, one for legato and one for portamento. Long glissando slides can be created or short slurs.
Customise with the Mod Matrix – The mod matrix is an incredibly powerful system that allows you to set up the instrument to play how you like. Arctic Strings will sound great out of the box and there are plenty of presets to choose from. This is the place to set up keyswitches and CCs.
13 Effects – Arctic Strings comes with the powerful Frozen Plain Effects Engine featuring LP & HP filters, 2 band EQ, Atomise, Strums, Scatter, Sequencer/LFO, Arpeggiator, Distortion, Chorus, Phaser, Rotator, Tempo Synced Delay and Reverb. Each effect has 5 presets and a selection of controls.

The Chordophones
“The Chordophones” is built using the combined sounds of the retired Frozen Plain products “Ancient Chordophone” and “Hammered Chordophone”. The new and vastly more powerful engine breathes new life into the samples.
The Chordophones is a library of steel string sounds that can be blended and morphed in interesting ways to make anything from something resembling a dulcimer to something guitar-like or even organic sustains and pads. The volume, pan and tuning of the 6 layers can be chosen using the mixer.
First we have the hammered strings sound, this is a multi-sampled sound made from hitting steel strings with pencils. It’s tone is bouncy and rich, similar to a dulcimer. The next 4 layers are multi-sampled plucked string sounds. They’re made from recording steel strings in unusual setups, for example a very short length string. The last layer is a morphed sound made by stretching and editing a plucked string sample to last infinitely.
Overall, the Chordophones has an emotive, old sound to it. Sometimes even sounding quite “medieval”. Using the powerful interface you can adapt the sound to fit your needs. For example, you can use the Strum effect to turn chords into strums. Or the Atomise and Scatter effects to granulate the sound and create string sounding textures and pads.
Easy to Use Mixer – Using the mixer you can change the volume, pan and tune of each of the 6 layers. This allows you to dial in the sound that you want. If you need to save RAM you can shift+click to purge the samples of that layer from memory.
ADSR Envelopes – Each of the 6 layers have their own ADSR volume envelope allowing you to shape the sound. As an additional ease of use feature, you can edit all of the envelopes at once using the master envelope.
Convolution Reverb – The convolution reverb in The Chordophones can be used as a sound design tool. This reverb unit includes 28 custom made creative impulse responses. When applied they can turn the sound into beautiful textures and atmospheres.
