11GB of Elegant & Powerful Choirs for Kontakt!

Aurora Choir is an elegant and powerful choir sample library for Kontakt, and represents somewhat of a milestone for Aria Sounds, being the culmination of many hours of work, study and tweaking.

The library contains both Sopranos and Altos (separate instruments for maximum control), with stunning true legato built in.

On top of this, it has 24 short syllables, arranged into a very conveniently playable sequencer. Simply arrange your phrase in the sequence, and play away – the choir will automatically sing the syllables you enter.

Beautiful Sopranos & Altos With 3 Distinct Playable Modes

Aurora Choir has 3 distinct modes: true legato syllables, polyphonic mode and syllable shorts mode.

True legato syllable mode allows you to play “aah“, “eeh“, “ih” or “oh” in true legato (sampled with two dynamics), providing 8 full sets of legato intervals – perfect for realism and variety.

Polyphonic mode allows you to play full chords in unison. The dynamics for both this and the true legato modes are controlled by the modulation wheel (CC1).

Also included is the syllable shorts mode, allowing you to play twenty four different syllable shorts, each of which has three dynamic layers, sequence-able in the GUI, giving a total of 72 variations per short note.

Create Your Own Epic Phrases With The Built In Sequencer!

The sequencer section allows for the creation of extremely realistic and powerful spoken lines, with the 24 included syllables. You can also control the speed or “tightness” of the sequence, so you can make it sound more loose and drawn out, or very quick/urgent/powerful/epic…

The default sequence spells out the “Dies Irae” text, but you can easily customise or completely change this. Simply click on any syllable, and select a different one from the 24 options on the drop down menu that opens. Each syllable was recorded at three dynamics, which respond to velocity.

The low G# (in yellow) can be used to reset the sequence to the beginning, in case you don’t want to use all twenty four steps every time, allowing for even greater variation.

4 Mic Positions in Pristine 48Khz/24 bit Quality

The choir was recorded in a mid sized hall, for a pristine and clear sound, using four mic positions at 48kHz/24 Bit to ensure that no part of the vocalists’ glorious sound was lost.

A variety of mics were used, including Neumanns, DPA’s & Coles 4038 mics. Choose from each of these, or create your own personal blend from the four available positions (close, ribbon, mid & far)

The positions are ordered from closest to furthest, and you even have the option between close condenser mics, and close ribbon mics (for a darker and warmer sound).

If an even more reverberant sound is what you are after, there is a reverb slider on the interface, and you’ll also be pleased to know that this library takes external reverb very well.

Sound quality is nice, everything else is not. Really limited in it’s uses, sequencer seems to have no way to turn off phrases (there are 24 parts in the sequence… if you only want four vowels to repeat, you still have to program 24 parts of the sequence, no matter what. Basically if you only want one vowel sound, you have to manually change every single phrase in the sequencer to the same thing. It defaults to a certain sequence every time you open it. Hard to explain but it’s annoying). Also there are timing issues with the sequenced parts, which is really frustrating, ie the sound doesn’t attack fast enough and you have to tweak it in the DAW by moving the note to start earlier if you want it to sound good in a production. No manual, no nothing. Quite disappointed.

      Hi Brian,

Thanks for the comments! Answers to some of the issues you bring up are already covered within the product text itself on this page:

      1) You can reset a phrase in the sequencer to the beginning by using the low G# (in yellow) keyswitch if you don’t want to use all twenty four steps every time.

      2) For the timing issues try adjusting the speed or “tightness” of the sequence using the “Sequencer Speed” bar just above the keyboard but below the sequencer itself.

      3) To save a custom phrase of your own design choose the option “save as” under load/save in the Kontakt toolbar (the icon that looks like a floppy disc), choose “Patch Only” as an option and give it a new filename so that you don’t overwrite the original. This will save a new patch with your personal phrase settings in the same folder as the original one. This will also including any tightness, mic or reverb settings you may have modified as well.

Great tone. Really captures the soul in choir for Mozart´s Requiem. In that sense is a product quite unique.
The library has still needed some tweaks, but developer has been very responsive and already announced an inminent update in a few days to solve it.
As a criticism, I think the microphone positions doesn’t add too much to the sound. Anyway with an only mic position and some added reverb it sounds awesome isolated and in a mix (blends easily with Hollywood choir).
Sequencer (and speed slider) works as expected. Also, legato´s sliders are very helpful.
Easy and fun to play with. This is a very dynamic library, you can really feel from pianissimo to fortíssimo.
At this price point, is a great value.

Do i have to unzip all of the folders? it’s like 60GB 🙁

    • VSTBuzz

      Hi Aleksandr,

I’m not sure where you got 60GB of files from. The library as delivered consists of 7 .rar files that amount to about 6.2GB total in size, but will expand to 11GB when you extract them.

If you need any further help with this don’t hesitate to get in touch with me at support@vstbuzz.com
