Baltic Shimmers – Inspired By The Sea
An incredibly expressive collection of ambient sounds. Baltic Shimmers is an instrument with very characteristic timbre. It was inspired by the sea itself which you can immediately hear while playing its “Shimmer” type of sounds. They can be almost static like calm sea. They can move like waves and eventually turn into foam like shimmer, which spreads and fade away in time.
Baltic Shimmers is not just a soundset it’s a sample library made with organic sounds: sea, birds, acoustic and electric musical instruments. It was designed as a film and game scoring tool, especially to work as additional color in complex pieces, but it can also be used solo in a minimalistic way.
Made Out Of Love To The Sea
Sonic Atoms recorded very long organic textures, irregular electric cello tremolos, ukulele tremolos or glockenspiel random notes, to name a few. They processed all the sounds and often combined them with sea waves or seagulls, to get original, moving and evolving sounds.
They crafted every single sample carefully using creative effects and outboard. It was a long process since they processed and curated hours of recordings just to select the best sounding textures and place them in the Baltic Shimmers collection.
Most of their samples went through tape and after slowing down, were recorded again digitally. This process added truly organic feel and imperfection to their sounds. You get most of Baltic Shimmers by playing very long notes.
Most samples are very long and in combination with clever modulation onboard you may play a single note for a few minutes and it will constantly evolve. Some movements are very subtle while others can turn from even and static to detuned, wobbly and randomly changing timbre.
The Overview Panel
The Baltic Shimmers instrument has 3 types of sounds: Shimmers, Pads and Drones. Each has its own unique functions and GUI. The Shimmer type has 3 stages which can morph from static, through wave into foam or as Sonic Atoms like to call it “shimmer”.
Pad type on the other hand is more traditional but built from 3 atoms. Every atom is a unique sound. Atom 1 and 2 is always a long textured played forward or backwards, while atom 3 is a sea noise which is always triggered on key release.
This way you can make music like every note is a sea wave. You can change the volume of every atom so you can completely change or even mute chosen parts.

Baltic Shimmers – Omnisphere Edition
This is a new incarnation of Sonic Atoms’ Baltic Shimmers library which now shines in Spectrasonics Omnishpere synthesizer. This library contains 1.5 Gb of original samples, which were inspired by the sea.
There are 144 Omnisphere patches based on organic sounds: sea, birds, acoustic and electric musical instruments. All 144 sound sources are available inside Omnisphere to be used, repurposed and become a foundation of even more original sounds made by You.
These sounds were designed to be used in film or game underscore, but they can find their way into almost any genre.
Designed For Omnisphere
Baltic Shimmers Omnisphere Edition comes with 144 patches and 144 sound sources. Library has 3 types of sounds: Shimmers, Pads and Drones.
All sounds come from original Baltic Shimmers sample library and were edited and looped for ease of use in the Omnisphere ecosystem.
Drones patches are made of a single layer but they use very long evolving samples. Shimmers are made of much more complex samples which are played back through a granular engine, which allows them to blend smoothly in between various stages of a complex sample.
Pad type on the other hand is more traditional but built from 2 up to 3 layers. All patches react to modwheel (CC1), however behaviour differs and depends on patch type.

Chris – :
Nice sounds, which are ideal for making spheres with my midi- Ghost system guitar! Easy to use and adapt to your likings
A – :
I know, you already have pads. But these really are rich, organic, and just give you instant easy magic by layering with piano or whatever else floats your boat.
Quetzal – :
Great evolving sounds, with unique interface. unfortunately I don’t have Omnisphere (I hope that there will be a free Omnisphere player soon!!!)
James – :
Interesting pads … always good to have more … who wants to actually craft a pad when you just scroll through and find something that works … they do sound REALLY good …
John – :
I’m personally a huge fan of sombre-sounding music, so this instrument is a great fit for me. It includes three types of patches; drones, pads and “shimmers”. Out of the box, these sounds evoke images and inspire. There’s quite a bit of variety!
In some patches, however (mostly limited the pads), there is a recurring sound element (a kind of rustling?) that’s kind of annoying to me. It seems very out of place. Regardless, I recommend this, especially for this price.
Mind you this review is for the (older) HALion version as I do not own Omnisphere.
Michael – :
Great sounds and a great value! Using the sounds in both Halion and Omnisphere. I recommend this purchase.
Andris – :
Excellent product. Very atmospheric! Sounds are very deep and emotionnals, great for soundtracks and for cinematic stuff.
Arsenial – :
Some really awesome sounds that capture a very specific feel. Just another great library to add to your arsenal.
