A Brief History Of The Ultra Rare Vermona Piano Strings Synth

The Vermona Piano Strings Synth was released in 1978. It was a 61 key, 12 note polyphonic synthesizer produced in the German Democratic Republic (GDR), and was sold to the UDSSR.

Like most of the string machines from this time it features a high frequency top-oscillator that is divided into 12 frequencies that make up the top octave. Each of the 12 notes is then divided down by 2:1 several times to create the different octaves found on the keyboard and in the footages of the different registers.

All this is done with square waves. These are then mixed, filtered or shaped to generate the sound. Yes, this is just like a typical organ keyboard. There is also a built in analog chorus to build up the sound as well as a set of 8 buttons for selecting different presets. There are 4 for each section.

Overview Of The Instrument

“Vermon” consists of 2 separate pages:

  • The main Vermon synth section
  • The effects/control section

The Main Page

This is where you select the Sounds and Filter Types for each voice. You can also set up the Chord System to your liking here.

  • Selecting Sound Types – Vermon has three synth sections. To select a sound for a section, you simply click in the instrument name window of the section you wish to select a sound for and choose from the drop-down menu.

They also have an LFO section where you can adjust the Shape, Rate, Speed or Depth as well as choose whether to Sync the tempo to your host or not.
  • Chord System – The easy chord system allows you to set the Key and Scale of the chords you wish to use.
