“Type B” is a plugin inspired by a famous vintage exciter effect.
The original unit was designed to add presence and brightness to vocal or instrument tracks. It was often used to enhance dull recordings where the high frequency content was missing due to tape overdubs.
Type B lets you control more aspects of the exciter circuit emulation, giving you access to the internal filter, the harmonic generator and more.

Well suited to a variety of musical styles, “Type B” is particularly good on Vocals and Drum Loops.
The original aural exciter algorithm was developed in the mid-1970s by Aphex Systems.
At first, it was available to recording studios only to hire (at a cost of $30 per minute of finished recording time in 1975). Eventually, its popularity led to the release of commercially available models like the Type B and Type C.
Exciters generate high-frequency content that is not part of the original signal using a combination of filtering and distortion (harmonic generator).
The input signal goes into a filter (usually highpass, but you can also choose bandpass with Type B) before feeding it into the harmonic generator. You have controls over the generated harmonics using the Color parameter. The signal is then mixed back with the dry signal.
You can show/hide the drop-down panel by clicking on the arrow icon in the bottom left corner of the interface. You’ll get access to:

"This is another excellent effect from AudioThing. It can add presence or air, increase clarity, produce lo-fi degraded sounds and reduce the bass or ‘boom’ of a sound. It can be quite subtle or more pronounced. Often a number of subtle changes makes a big improvement to your overall sound."

Type B gives you a ton of control for achieving some really pleasing harmonic coloring. You can use it subtly to enhance presence and energy in the highs or you can really drive sounds hard to achieve lofi and hyperpop aesthetics.
Boogie B – :
SOUNDS GOOD and SMOOTH !
Since I now own Type B, I am eligible for an additional discount on Vintage Enhancer Type A.
Very exiting deal 😉
Chris – :
I really love the Type B! Just the right amount makes my recent spoken word projects sound really great.
Diogo – :
AudioThing has become one of my favorites. They reply to queries ultra-fast, are helpful, and have unique plugins. Definitely recommend Type B.
Logan – :
Type B is really nice! It is a simple effect that is very effective and quite easy to use. I like it and will definitely use it whenever I need some sonic enhancement!
Simon – :
awesome subtle details for the mids and highs. I can hear myself using this more and more. Takes a while to get it tuned but once you hit the sweet spot it delivers everytime
Timiryan – :
I have been looking for a replacement for Waves’ Apex Exciter for a long time, the “Type B” plugin by AudioThing satisfied all my wishes. Quality work. Thank you!
Display – :
Super happy I finally own Type B. After you add it to your AudioThing account it also unlocks a discount promotion for Type A too!
Hillmy – :
Great versatility and functionality with cool presets. It does way more than the average stock or free exciter that you can find online!
William – :
This is like a magic box to brighten your mixes, it is a remake of the Dolby B noise reduction system that you used to get on tape machines years ago. Very simple to use, a bargain for the money.
Arsdale – :
Just getting into the plugin, but it is great! I tried it on BGVs where it really added air and presence. I have also used it to get the mids to come out a bit more on a Bass track without having to do much. It will be a nice addition to my tool box.
Thomas – :
The extra controls added (compared to other plugins) gives you a lot of control over shaping the sound!
akira – :
The sound is crisp just by inserting it. You can put it in the track or you can use it as a master. It was a hit plug-in.
Pete – :
Type B is more versatile than many harmonic enhancers. I used it on a recent mix to add clarity to a vocal, then on another to add presence to a rhythm guitar. With more control then Waves Aphex vintage exciter, the Type B allows me to sweep the tune to the sweet spot and add just the right amount of colour. I’ve used the hardware version and this does not disappoint.
Recommended.

Good sound
I use it a lot because it sounds good easily.
Easily Add Vintage Presence & Brightness To Vocals & Instruments! good
Lloyd – :
I have the Aphex Aural Exciter from Waves which is an emulation of the same model this is based on—and have always liked i—but this plugin goes a lot further towards allowing you to quickly sculpt the sound to get something more specific. Great addition to the toolbox!
Chris – :
I own Wave Aphex and this is a great addition considering there is no Waves Upgrade Plan with this product. It has Type B/C sounds and works really well on vocals. I mix live each week using exciters to add extra presence and harmonics in the 3KHz range. This does a great job in that frequency range and can also give a nice bite on the low end of a vocal as well. It has a bunch of different tonal options too.
Kevin – :
AudioThings make great products. They’ve been pushing their products all over. This is the 4th plugin I’ve gotten from AudioThings this month alone. I’ve liked all of them. Also just by getting this you can get their Type A plugin at a discount. I’m happy with it all, and for this price you can’t go wrong. The A & B is 118$usd retail, a bundle is available at PB for 80$usd, or getting them both, from here, and the discount for a total of 37$usd. VSTBuzz is clearly the winner. Get it before you miss out.
Hatsuki – :
I bought it because it was 75% off.
A nice surprise, Type A coupon was issued and I bought that too.
Thank you!
Johnathan – :
Does what it says on the tin. There is nothing else quite like it. Great on vocals but don’t be afraid to slap it on anything that needs to cut through a bit more. I’ve had success with it on electric piano, snares, etc.

This is the best, “Aural Exiter” ever!
I’ve been using the WAVES one for years, but this one is dozens of times better.
